The first step towards having the world view your website, is a need for a web host. It’s a step that you just can’t do without. Since there is a tremendous amount of need for web hosting companies, there are many web hosting companies to choose from. However you should avoid these mistakes when selecting a web hosting company for your website. It is a bit tricky and may not be as easy as it seems.
1. Estimate the Usage – The first thing that you should do is estimate the usage so you do not have to pay more than is needed, depending on the amount of storage and data transfer that you need. Hosting companies usually have add-on packages to add a bit of storage or transfer space without have to upgrade the entire package.
2. IP Address – Another mistake which is commonly made is the use of Dedicated IP address when a shared IP address would be sufficient for a small website. Dedicated IP addresses are for very large websites that have tremendous amount of traffic, by sites that use private and not shared SSL certificates and also by those who wish to use anonymous FTP login. If you have a website for a small business or you don’t have a lot of traffic coming to your website , Dedicated IP address would be perfect. It can meet your needs and you won’t have to spend too much money.
3. Low Cost Hosting – There are Hosting companies which can provide services for a very low price, but avoid choosing the cheapest service based on price. Always look at the up time ratio of the site. For example a 99% up time means 87 hours or so of downtime annually. So choose with the up time of 99.7% or more.
4. Features – Every Hosting company offers many features but it’s highly unlikely that your website will need all the features that the web host is offering. Pay for only the features which you think that are necessary and you will be saving money.
