How to Keep Flowers Fresh Longer
Flowers add color in our life. They are so beautiful to look at and can elevate any body’s mood. Who doesn’t loves flowers? Studies have been done which concluded that if flowers are present in the home, there are less chances of people having depression and anxiety. People feel happy when they receive flowers.
Flowers can lose their freshness quite soon. Any one who purchases flowers wants to get the freshest ones available. Florists have to maintain the quality of flowers so that they look fresh. If you have received a bouquet of flowers or have just cut some flowers from your garden, here are a few tips to make sure that the flowers remain fresh longer. So you can enjoy them more.
* Before buying flowers, determine if they are fresh. Flowers must not have been in cold storage before they are sold. By checking the quality of flowers, you are making sure that the flowers are fresh to be used in your home or if you want to send them to someone.
* Fresh flowers needs to be in the cold water so add cold water in the vase. Hot water can dry the flowers and so their life span is shortened. Select a vase which can hold 3-4 inches of water for your flowers. Remember to wash the vase so that it’s free of any type of bacteria or chemicals. Change the water in the vase every 2-3 days and also remember to add some fresh water every day .
* Before adding flowers in the vase, trim their endings diagonally. The diagonal cut facilitates the absorption of water. Also keep the stems under cold water while you are trimming the ends.
* Remove any leaves on the part of stem the is in the water. Since the leaves that are in the water develop bacteria which is harmful for the flowers.
* Ask the florist for some flower food so you can increase the life of your flowers. Follow the instructions for adding the flower food to the flowers.
