How to Keep Your Pets Safe from Fleas

If you have a pet and carpet at home, chances are you will be at an higher risk of having fleas in your carpet as well. However there are ways to avoid and eliminate flea problems.

* Wash pets bedding often. This will eliminate any fleas, larvae, fleas eggs, adult fleas. A regular cycle with a washing detergent is good enough to get rid of them.

* Have a place where your pets can sleep or hang around often. Do not make a sleeping space where it will be difficult to vacuum. Vacuum thoroughly often to get rid of fleas, or their eggs.

* Since pets bring the fleas from outside, make sure not to leave any food outside which can attract other animals to come close to your house. Also by keeping the grass short, fleas and their eggs are most likely to be killed by heat and sun.

* If you don’t have any pets but still find fleas in your place, look for areas under your house, close to the walls etc. If squirrel is hiding in the home, it could also be a source for causing fleas.

* If you have a cat or dog, use a flea comb to remove any fleas from your pets. While doing so, keep a bowl of soapy water by the side. If you find any flea, drop it in the soapy water.

* Consult a veterinarian to recommend products that can help control fleas in cats and dogs. Read the instructions carefully before using any fleas or ticks control products.

* Remember to bathe your pet regularly with a flea shampoo ( if your pet has fleas). Otherwise a regular shampoo is fine.

* To eliminate the fleas from your house, vacuum your house thoroughly. Do not leave any space unclean. Since the pets can bring fleas from outside in your living space, also remember to clean sofas and furniture. If you have vacuum bags, dispose the vacuum in another plastic bags because if you are not careful, adult fleas may escape.

* Steam clean your carpets every few months. This will eliminate any fleas and their eggs. It is much better than standard vacuuming. Once the carpet has been stem cleaned, than you can vacuum regularly.
