How to Keep Your Child Safe

Being a parent may not be a easy task but it is well worth the time and effort parents spend to make sure that their kids are healthy, happy and safe. If you have just had your first child, you may be nervous about how to protect your child from various elements that may be present in your house and outside. Below are some tips to help you pin point the things which should be done and also the things which must be avoided.

* Always keep the baby clean. Genital area should be kept clean and dry since fungal infection can develop.

* Cut the nails with proper care.

* The room should also be kept free of dust. Allow fresh air to come in the room and also have good amount of light in the room.

* Baby’s dress or outfit should be loose and not tight.

* Support the baby’s neck by placing one hand underneath the head and another hand supporting the baby’s back.

* Breast milk is best for the baby. If your child is drinking milk by  a bottle , sterilize the bottle or wash it in hot water and keep the bottle dry until next use.

* Keep some musical toys near the baby. Music tends to soothe crying baby. Some babies enjoy looking at brighter colors so some soft baby toys with bright colors is another good idea.

* Protect your child from mosquitoes by using mosquito nets. malaria, yellow fever and other diseases can spread via mosquitoes.

* Baby should always ride in a car seat while in the car. Choose an appropriate car seat for your child by following the weight and age guidelines.

* Never give raw milk to the child. Cow’s milk must always be boiled to prevent certain diseases.

* Some children are allergic to certain foods. When starting solids to a baby, give one type of food for a few days to see if the child shows any type of reaction to that particular food.

* Keep all the medications out of the reach of children.

* Before baby starts to crawl, cover all the electrical outlets. Also it’s a good idea to block the stairs in the house to prevent any injuries.

* Take your baby to the doctor if you notice any unusual behavior.

* Since a baby will take almost any thing he/she can lay hands on, it’s best to keep small pieces or toys out of the reach of child.

* Always supervise your child when he/she is in a bath tub.

* Avoid smoking in the house.

* Never give an expired medicine to a child. Always read the expiration date before you give medicine.

* Keep cosmetics out of the reach of children. Also keep all the electrical appliances out of reach as well.

* Keep a first aid box at home in case of any emergencies.

* Keep all the chemicals out of reach of children.

These are just some of the few tips to help keep your baby safe. Always use good judgment when caring for your child. Keep up with pediatrician’s appointments. Make sure your child is current with immunizations and above all give your child plenty of love to keep him/ her happy.
