How to Quit Smoking
There are so many things people get addicted to in their lives. Smoking is one of those addictions. It is the addiction which not only harms the person who is a smoker but also is harmful to the people around the person who smokes. Cigarettes contain tobacco which has nicotine. It is the nicotine which is the addictive ingredient and hence makes it difficult for the person to quit smoking.
Many deaths occur each year because of the diseases associated with smoking. Smoking greatly increases the chances of lung cancer, chronic lung disease, heart attack , cancers , stroke etc. Pregnant women, infants and people can develop various lung diseases and problems due to second hand smoke. Even though, quitting an addiction is not as easy as it may seem but smoking is an addiction which can cause various health complications. The risks are in a far greater number. Once you stop smoking,
* Your breathe will smell better.
* The food will taste better.
* If you have been having cough, you will start to see an improvement.
* You no longer will be putting your loved ones through the dangers of second hand smoke.
* You will reduce the chances of having lung cancer and many other diseases.
The toughest part is quitting. If you are determined to change your life for the better and get rid of this addiction, know it in your heart that you can do it. Determination and persistence is the key to quit smoking. Remember no one can make you quit, it is only your desire that can help you overcome this addiction. Even if someone does make you quit, you may return to smoking at some point in your life. People who have quit knew it was the best thing for them and stayed off smoking. * Analyze the various benefits associated with not smoking.
* You can set a day to quit smoking.
* When you feel the urge to smoke, try to distract yourself . Hold a pen or chew gum to take your mind off of smoking.
* Do not have cigarettes near you and get rid of ashtrays.
* When you quit, you may feel irritable and in a bad mood. You may start to feel more hungry than you did before. Of course, you will feel urge to smoke but stay determined to quit. Remember you can get through this with a positive attitude.
* Let your friends and people surrounding you know that you have quit smoking so that they can support you.
* Even if you do give in the urge to smoke, don’t be discouraged. It took people few tries before they finally gave up the smoking.
* If it still doesn’t work, there are nicotine replacement therapies available over the counter.They come in gum, lozenges or patches.
