Millions of people all around the world are living with cancer everyday. There are more than 200  types of cancers and the most common ones are breast cancer, prostrate cancer, lung cancer, skin cancer and bowel cancer. This disease progresses at a very rapid pace. Normally cells divide and multiply in a controlled manner. Constantly new cells are forming and old ones are dying in our bodies.

In this disease, cells grow uncontrollably and keep multiplying into a lump known as tumor. Tumors can be either benign or malignant. In benign tumor, cells are not cancerous and do not spread to other parts of the body. Malignant tumors on the other hand, consist of cancerous cells and can reach other organs in the body. In most cases cancers are not formed as the natural defense system in our bodies kills any cancerous cells before they get a chance to develop into a tumor. Also more than a gene has to be damaged in order for cancer to develop.

Commonly lung cancers are caused by smoking cigarettes or cigars. Many stomach and prostrate cancers are linked to unhealthy diets in which a person does not consumes much fresh fruit or vegetables. 10% of skin cancers are related to sun and UV rays. Excessive drinking of alcohol and many environmental chemicals can also be linked to this disease.

Any abnormality in the body must be checked by the doctor. If you detect any lump in the breast, you need to see a doctor as soon as possible. They are often but not always painless. Coughing or any chesty symptom can be a sign of lung cancer which must be evaluated by a doctor. Cancer is such a disease that it can be formed just about anywhere in the body. If you notice any type of change, it’s best to be checked. Often in skin cancer, person can observe the change in color of the skin with an irregular shape. Skin may appear  itchy, crustyor may even be bleeding.

Many cancers have different types of staging systems but most cancers are divided into four stages.

* In stage one, cancer is relatively small and is contained within an organ.

* In stage two, cancer has usually spread into the surrounding tissue and also sometimes in this stage the cancer has spread into lymph nodes close to tumor.

* In stage three, cancer is larger than stage two. The cancerous cells have spread into the surrounding tissues and cancerous cells can be found in the lymph nodes in the areas.

* In stage four, cancer has spread to another organ in the body.
