Things to Consider When Choosing a Puppy

Dogs are often referred as ” Man’s Best Friend”. Since they are loyal ,loving and adorable, it’s quite easy for any one to love them. Adding a dog to the family is an exciting time. If you are single or have a family,they can bring a lot of joy. Kids have a great time with them and consider them as a play mate. Being young , they share a bond instantly with dogs. However when choosing a dog, it’s good to know the breed and the characteristic of that particular dog before you make a decision.

Since there are various breeds of dogs. They can range from tiny chihuahuas to huge Great Danes. There are a couple of things to consider, before you select the right dog for yourself or your family.

* How much space will be available to the dog. If you live in an apartment, a smaller dog might work better than a big one.

* How much exercise can you provide the dog. Some dog breeds are very energetic like Sporting Group, Herding and Hound. You will have to give more intense exercises to these dogs.

* Most dog breeds require 30 minutes of grooming in a week. There are some breeds like Maltese or Poodle which require an hour of grooming a day. If you don’t have much time for dog grooming, breeds such as Boston Terrier and Whippets are a good choice.

* Most people prefer smaller and cute puppies. The only drawback with them is that they may not be house trained but with a little training, they can easily be house trained. If you choose a adult dog, it will be house trained. If you are not in the mood for training a puppy or don’t have enough time,adult dog is an excellent option.

* Do you have an active lifestyle?. Do you like to go for hunting with you dog, than you should consider the breed Golden Retriever or Labrador Retriever. They can be easily trained and will be a loyal and loving companion.
