It is known that martial arts was created by the ancient cultures of Asia. This art form traveled from China to Japan and Korea, giving it a wide variety of styles. Martial arts involves self-defense, fighting techniques, mental discipline and physical exercise. We are now beginning to realize the many benefits this art offers. One can only be amazed that Chinese have been using this for thousands of years.
It is has now been proven scientifically that martial arts offers many physical and psychological benefits. This form of art is great for battling stress and anxiety disorders. There is no age limit in martial arts. However for elderly people, Tai Chi and Qigong can be proven excellent for exercise. For children and adults, taekwondo and Hapkido can provide many benefits. They will be able to learn proper techniques for self-defense and fighting. A normal session of training involves warming-up and stretching and than training. This art helps in improving stamina, physical balance and flexibility. Since exercise is very important for healthy minds and body, this type of art also provides the best form of exercise.
Martial arts teaches us that the body can be a powerful tool for self defense, if used properly. In today’s world not a lot of thought is given to it. We often neglect what our bodies are capable of. Martial arts promotes a healthy way of life. It not only provides the power for self-defense but also helps in healing from poor physical and psychological health.
Tai Chi has been proven to decrease insomnia, nightmares while giving a positive outlook on life to the person. Hapkido is proven to improve self-confidence in groups or individuals. Judo has been proven to decrease rates of violence in adolescents. So you may be asking how is this form of art different than any regular sport?
The difference between martial arts and regular sports is that many western sports focus on the competition between individuals or groups. Over the past few years, martial arts has became a competitive sport as well.But the biggest difference between martial arts and regular sports is that the art focuses on the mind body integration and self-control through the use of meditation and physical activity and it has been proven to contain tremendous amount of diverse psychological benefits as well.
