Today dressing a bed is about adding layers of sheets instead of just a single layer of sheet and a blanket. Adding layers of sheets has it’s benefits as you can decide how many layers of bedding you want on yourself depending on the temperature. If it’s hot, you can simply use a single sheet and if it’s cold, you can control the level of warmth you need by adding more layers. Ofcourse, by dressing your bed, it will become the focal point of the room.

So how can one dress the bed? Let’s start by examining key factors.

1.Good Mattress – A good mattress is essential for having a good night’s sleep as well as for aesthetic purposes. If your mattress is old, sinks in the middle and isn’t comfortable than it would be a good idea to have it replaced.Once you have the mattress in place, use a mattress protector as that will prolong the life of the mattress (10 years max).

Next by adding mattress pad, you can add a layer of softness to the mattress as it molds to your body and can help relieve pressure points. A good night sleep is essentially important for a healthy body and mind.

2. Bed linens – Pick the color of the sheets that co-ordinates with the style of the room.You can look for sheets with thread count between 180 – 500. Experiment with different textures of linen to create a dramatic look to the room (make sure the texture of the material is soft). Since your room is your sanctuary, pick the fabrics that are comfortable. If you like hotel inspired bedrooms, you can opt for monochromatic ( one color) shades, tints and tones.

3. Pillow Power – By placing pillows in upright positions against the head board, you can achieve crisp and clean feel to the bed. To dress up your bed with pillows use two to three euro size shams,two standard or king shams per person or one or two decorative pillows( depending on your choice). You can also choose darker shade of decorative pillow if the rest of the linens are lighter in color or vice versa. You can choose to opt for comforter or use duvet cover.
