In today’s world we hear a lot about outsourcing. It is a term that pierces our hearts as most of us have suffered because of it. Outsourcing has long-term effects on lower middle- class as well as the middle- class. Because of it, jobs are transferred to other countries due to the fact that labor is cheap there and it is profitable for big companies and corporations.
Many people and families have been affected by it. However, if you are one of those people who has not lost his/her job, chances are that you will suffer indirectly because of it’s effect on the economy. People in immense amounts have lost their jobs and suffered hardships because of it. Outsourcing is profitable for the major companies as they get cheap labor outside which lowers their cost. But the main question is that what are people supposed to do who have lost their jobs? They have families to support and take care of. Financial hardship puts strain on their physical well being as well as their relationships and their life is no longer care free and blissful as it used to be.
As a result, people are forced to do petty jobs in order to make their ends meet. It all started in the late 1980s when information technology known as IT was going through a booming phase. A lot of jobs were created in that field and hence many people were needed to fill the positions. Great pay scale with medical insurance and other benefits were part of the package. When the IT boom was no longer there, the companies needed less expensive labor and wanted to lower their costs, so the jobs were transferred to other countries. China and India got the biggest boost to their economy as a lot of jobs were created there.
Not only were the IT jobs affected but people working in business, life sciences, art design, architecture etc were affected too. With so many jobs being lost, the number of people who needed jobs went high. That in turn has an effect on the economy because price of everything soars. With higher prices and people not being able to make the amount of money that they used to, spending goes down automatically.
